A blaze broke out at a historic carousel at an amusement park in Westchester on Sunday, authorities said.
Around 4 p.m., smoke could be seen billowing from the roof of the green-and-white carousel at Playland in Rye. Everyone was evacuated from the ride, park officials said.
“Me and my mom we had to evacuate,” witness Daniel Lopez said. “The fire was spreading and spreading. I was really scared because I was really close to it.”
No one was hurt, officials said.
The fire was under control and did not spread throughout the park, local fire officials said.
None of the 66 horses were damaged, park officials said. The ride dates back to 1915, where it was at a park in Connecticut and was brought to the Playland in 1928.

"It's a tough roof. It's not near collapse or anything of that nature," said Peter Tartaglia, deputy commissioner at Westchester County Parks.
Tartaglia said nobody was in danger because they fire was on the roof. The historic roof saved people from getting hurt, he said.
Park officials closed a small portion of the park while fire crews worked.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The ride will remain closed while it is repaired.
"It's sad," Joseph Amelio said. "There's a lot of history here. It's been here a long time."
Playland is about 31 miles northeast of New York.
