Cardinal Egan Successor Could Be Named This Week

Milwaukee Archbishop is top candidate

Cardinal Edward Egan's replacement could be named Tuesday.

Many newspapers are reporting that Archbishop Timothy Dolan of Milwaukee will succeed Egan, including the Italian newspaper Il Reformista, which covers the Vatican.

Egan is expected to retire after a tenure that began when Pope John Paul II appointed him in 2000.

The Vatican often makes key announcements on Tuesdays, but there's no guarantee that Egan's replacement will be named today.
