Hit-Run Driver Slams Car Into House on Long Island: Police

A hit-and-run driver careened into a house on Long Island Monday morning, police say.

A driver traveling in a Nissan Maxima at Little East Neck Road in West Babylon left the roadway at about 8 a.m. and sped through a backyard before hitting the home, authorities say.

The driver slammed into the back of the house, on Phoenix Road before taking off.

Luckily, there was only one person inside the house -- a woman on the second floor --  at the time. She wasn't hurt.

After a search, law enforcement sources said the driver of the vehicle has been arrested.

Residents living nearby tell NBC 4 New York that speeding is a common problem in the neighborhood, but town officials say there's not enough traffic to warrant a stop sign or traffic lights.
