An 81-year-old woman died and an 80-year-old man was injured when their car veered out of control and slammed into a fence, coming to rest partially on the lawn of a Staten Island home Monday, authorities said.
Police say Mary Pannese, of Staten Island was in the passenger front seat when the 80-year-old driver lost control of the car they were in and plowed into the fence of the home, just one house away from where Pannese lived.
Pannese had trauma to her body and was pronounced dead at Staten Island University Hospital. The 80-year-old man was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The relationship between the two wasn't clear.
