Car Plows into Barbershop on Long Island

Three people were hurt when a car barreled into a barbershop on Long Island Friday evening, police say.

It's not clear what caused the Ford SUV to plow through the storefront and into Prestige Barbers in Syosset.

A witness told NBC 4 New York the driver was screaming for people to get out of the way because he couldn't stop the car.

"'Everyone move, everyone get out of the way, I can't stop the car!'" Hamzah Obeidat recalled the driver shouting.

Others echoed a similar account: the car appeared to be out of control.

"The barber himself told me the car, it wasn't going quickly, nothing of the sort," said Christian Perea, who works nearby. "Just seemed like the car wouldn't stop."

"It's a small store so not a lot of space," said Obeidat, who was in the bags shop directly adjacent to the barbershop. "I thought someone was gonna die."

Perea said he walked out of where he works a few doors down to find a makeshift triage center in the parking lot.

"There are people sitting down, shaking, nervous," he said. "I see one of the barbers, one of them seemed a little hurt."

Witnesses said at least one person complained of a foot injury from the car running over their foot, even though a worker told NBC 4 New York over the phone earlier that no one inside had been hurt.

Police said three people suffered very minor injuries.

The driver is not currently facing any charges. Authorities are investigating whether the car malfunctioned or if the driver made an error.
