Child, Woman Die in Long Island Car Crash

The driver is believed to have had a medical emergency while on Old Country Road in Westbury

A 4-year-old boy and 27-year-old woman were killed when their car crashed into a tree on Long Island Sunday morning, police said.

Authorities, who have not released the identities of the victims, said the driver, who survived, is believed to have had a medical emergency while on Old Country Road in Westbury, causing him to veer abruptly to the right before hitting the tree near a store parking lot.

"The child in the back didn't appear to be moving, the lady was not moving either," said Phillip Bogdos, who saw the crash.

Bogdos and other witnesses said the driver seemed to be the woman's husband and boy's father, and that he was calling out for his wife and son in Spanish.

The driver, 27, was taken to a local hospital and officials said he is in serious but stable condition.
