A charter bus with children aboard and a tractor-trailer collided on the New Jersey Turnpike near Bordentown Wednesday morning, sending more than a dozen people to the hospital but causing no major injuries, authorities said.

A report about the accident in the truck lanes came in around 9:30 a.m. State police confirmed there were "juveniles" on the charter bus, but it wasn't clear how many -- nor was it known where they were from or where they were headed.

Fifteen of the 51 passengers on the bus suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital, police said.

Details on the tractor-trailer driver weren't known.

WCAU's chopper over the scene showed heavy damage to the entire front of the bus, which almost appeared partially severed from the rest of the vehicle. The tractor-trailer appeared to have some back-end damage.

More than a dozen people were seen standing on the side of the highway along the guard rail as emergency crews responded. At least one was seen being taken away on a stretcher.

The highway's center and right lanes were shut down as authorities investigated.
