2 Hurt When Awning Falls off Brooklyn Building: FDNY

Two pedestrians were injured in Brooklyn when an awning fell off a building in Bay Ridge, fire officials say.

It's not clear what caused the awning to fall from 9412 4th Ave. Monday evening, but the Department of Buildings said inspectors were on the scene after getting a report of bricks falling from the facade.

The inspectors found that a part of the facade was damaged along with the awning, but there's no danger of further collapse there, the DOB says.

The two people who were hit when the awning fell were taken to Lutheran Hospital in serious but stable condition.

The DOB has issued violations to the building owner and a full-vacate order. The building owner has also been ordered to put up a sidewalk shed to protect pedestrians.
