Police Hunt for Driver in NJ Hit-Run Crash

Police were searching Saturday for a driver who fled the scene of an accident that seriously injured two brothers as they left a movie theater in New Jersey, police said.

Michael Viruet, 20, and his younger brother Adrian, 11, who live in Union City, had just left the Columbia Park theater in North Bergen at about 10 p.m. Friday when a red Nissan Rouge jumped the curb and struck them, officials said. The car then sped away.

The younger brother was thrown by the impact and became impaled on a fence, authorities said. Both brothers were hospitalized in critical condition.

Their 15-year-old sister, who was with them at the time of the crash, narrowly missed being hit, police said.

The suspect's vehicle is believed to have tinted windows, heavy damage to the passenger side front end, and is missing part of the front passenger fender and headlight, which were found at the scene, officials said.

Police are asking anyone with information on the driver to contact the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office at 201-915-1300.
