Brooklyn Goes Overwhelmingly Blue

The Columbia Journalist takes a close look at Brooklyn's political leanings, and in an interactive map, documents the financial contributions to the presidential candidates by zip code. Not quite a shocker, Brooklyn is overwhelmingly blue. All but 7 of the borough's zip codes donated more to the Democratic party, with 11210, 11230, 11204, 11228, 11214, 11223, and 11235 going Red. From their site, Decision NYC:

"The following graphic details campaign contributions to Obama and McCain from within Brooklyn. Please click on either the zip codes on the map or on corresponding neighborhood names to view more details of financial contributions. All data has been collected from http://www.opensecrets.org for use in this graphic."

Williamsburg went 96.67% to Obama, racking in over $80,000 for the Democratic candidate. McCain got only $2,800 in the same neighborhood. Likewise, Park Slope donated over $496,000 to Barack Obama's campaign, accounting for over 96% of all 11215 donations. Poor McCain brought in a mere $24k from the Baby Mafia. Nearby Carroll Gardens gave over $150,000 to Obama.  On the other side of the fence, Parkville/Bensonhurst had the most donations for McCain, which raked in over $26,000 for the Republican candidate, and that's by far the most.

While these results aren't surprising, it's definitely interesting to check where your 'hood ranks up around the borough. I'd be interested to see the Hillary v. Barack map as well, but I'm way to lazy to compile all that info from OpenSecrets. If you're sitting around anxious over the weekend awaiting Tuesday's election, I say go for it, and send it in.
