Man Faces 122 Years in Brutal Rape of 82-Year-Old Brooklyn Woman

A 20-year-old Brooklyn man has been convicted of rape, assault and other crimes for attacking an 82-year-old woman in her Brighton Beach home last year.

Asa Robert faces up to 122 years in prison at sentencing, which is scheduled for early next year, prosecutors said Monday.

According to trial testimony, Robert entered the woman's apartment around 2 a.m. on July 13, 2015, while she was taking out her garbage. The woman went to bed a short time later, and not longer after that, she heard a noise. She awoke to find Robert hiding in her bedroom, according to court documents.

The woman yelled for Robert to leave but he refused. Instead, according to court records, he choked her and forced her onto the bed, where he held a knife to her face, demanded money and punched her in the chest. He then tied her hands behind her back and ransacked the bedroom.

Robert brought the woman into the kitchen, again assaulted her and ordered her not to call the police. He then took her back to the bedroom and raped and sodomized her, according to trial testimony.

Robert fled the home with a bag of the woman's personal items. The woman called family members, who called 911. She was treated at a hospital.

The suspect, meanwhile, led police on a four-day chase through various homes in Brooklyn. He was arrested on July 17, 2015 after being found hiding in someone's kitchen.
