Brooklyn Teacher Accused of Having Sex With 11th-Grade Student

Police say 36-year-old Erin Sayar, an English teacher at James Madison High School, was arrested Thursday on charges of rape, criminal sex act and sexual abuse

A married Brooklyn public high school teacher was arraigned on rape and other charges following her arrest Thursday for allegedly having a sexual relationship with one of her students.

Police say 36-year-old Erin Sayar, an English teacher at James Madison High School, was charged with rape, criminal sex act and sexual abuse.

Through her attorney, Sayar declined to speak with investigators from the Office of the Special Commissioner of Investigation, which conducted a probe into the allegations against her and released a report on its findings.

Investigators say the English teacher and the then-16-year-old male student first began kissing in a car in December and later had sex. All together, they had between eight and 12 sexual encounters, investigators said.

Investigators say the teenager lied about the relationship for a few months, but came forward recently.

If convicted, Sayar faces up to four years in prison. Her bond was set Friday at $10,000.
