Brooklyn Cyclist Hit By Car Door, Killed by Passing Bus

Police say a woman biking in Brooklyn was hit by a car door and propelled into the path of a city bus that killed her.

Jasmine Herron, 23, was riding on Atlantic Avenue near Prospect Heights Saturday evening when she was clipped by a car door that sent her reeling into the path of an MTA bus. She was struck by the bus and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses said a woman, Krystal Francis of Staten Island, opened the parked door and didn't know she had touched off the accident. She left the scene before police brought her back.   She has been charged with operating a vehicle without a license.

Today, people who knew the victim said she rode her bike everywhere.  According to the New York Daily News, Herron lived in Ditmas Park and worked as a barista at Think Coffee on Mercer Street.  Originally from Colorado, Herron had studied at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Canada.
