Woman Walking Home in Bronx Shot in Head, Killed: NYPD

A woman died after being shot in the head while walking home in the Bronx early on Tuesday, according to the NYPD.

Police responded to a call about a person who had been shot at East 213 and Holland Avenue in Williamsbridge shortly before 1 a.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Dune Janelle Jacobs unconscious on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head.

The woman was taken to Jacobi Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Jacobs' sister said the 31-year-old was a cook at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Brooklyn and had recently been promoted. She was walking home when she was gunned down, the sister said.

Police said that three men were seen leaving the scene in a white Nissan Altima. The car was found unoccupied a few hours later.

It’s unclear if they’re responsible for the shooting, but investigators are looking to question the men.

Jacobs' niece Jada Carter said the family is devastated.

"Everybody's just sad, everybody's calling from all different countries asking, 'What's wrong? How could something like this happen to her? She was such a good person,'" Carter said in tears.

Jacobs was unhappy with the neighborhood and was looking to move in January, according to Carter.

"She thinks there's too much gang activity, and it's kind of true because things like this happen to her," Carter said, crying.

Anyone with information about the men is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
