Robber Targets Senior Women in Bronx

The incidents have happened in the area of White Plains Road and East Gun Hill Road

Police are searching for a man they say has been targeting senior women in robberies and burglaries in the Bronx this week.

The incidents have happened in the area of White Plains Road and East Gun Hill Road, according to police.

The first occurred Monday, Dec. 3, at about 11:30 a.m., when the man snatched a purse from an 89-year-old woman and took cash.

At about 3 p.m. the same day, the man followed a 68-year-old woman as she left a post office, and then in front of 830 Magenta St., grabbed her purse and shoved her to the ground.

On Tuesday, Dec. 4, at about noon, the man followed a 78-year-old woman as she left a check-cashing store and into her building. While inside the elevator, the man grabbed the woman's wrist, and took cash and a money order from her pocket.

On Wednesday, Dec. 5, at about 4:50 p.m., the man followed a 60-year-old woman after she left a check-cashing store, and as she entered her building, he snatched an envelope containing cash from  her pocket.

The robber fled on foot in all cases.

The stepson of the 68-year-old victim told NBC 4 New York she is bruised and has difficulty raising her hands after the robber knocked her to the ground.

Most of all, said George Mercado, "she's traumatized."

The robber is described as about 30 to 45 years old and heavyset. He was wearing a dark-colored jacket and a black hat.
