Father Shot Dead in Front of His Son in the Bronx: Police

A man was shot dead in front of his teenage son during a double shooting in the Bronx that left another man suffering from a graze wound to the head, police say.

The NYPD said officers rushed to the scene on Strong Street near University Avenue as the bullets went flying just before 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said once they got there they found the 39-year-old father unconscious with a gunshot wound to the head. They say another man, a 25-year-old, was grazed in the head by a bullet.

The father, later identified as Pedro Sanchez Almonte of the Bronx, was pronounced dead at the scene, but paramedics rushed the other victim to an area hospital.

Almonte was with his teenage son and the 25-year-old victim at the time of the shooting, police said.

Police sources familiar with the investigation tell News 4 that the son and the victim are being interviewed, but it seems as if two suspects went to the area on Strong Street as a result of a prior dispute.

It was not immediately clear if Almonte was the indented target or somebody else was.

Video from the scene shows a heavy police presence in the area and a swarm of investigators on the street.

No arrests have been made and police continue to investigate.
