A 3-month-old baby was in fair condition Wednesday after falling out of an apartment building window and landing on top of a window air-conditioner unit Tuesday evening, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The baby, Jakeina Dubose, fell out of 1131 E. 225th Dr. shortly after 8 p.m., according to authorities. It's not clear how it happened. The city Administration for Children's Services is investigating the circumstances.
The infant and her six siblings are currently in ACS foster care.
Two adults were in the apartment at the time of the fall, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Wednesday. Video from inside the apartment did not appear to show anyone throwing the baby out of the window, Kelly said.
A neighbor who was outside the building described seeing a sudden commotion inside the second-story apartment from where the baby fell.
"We see some guy in front of the building go outside the window and say, 'Oh my God, the baby fell out the window,'" said Veronica Gross.
"A lot of the family was there, crying, and everybody was trying to console them," she said.

Jakeina was taken to Jacobi Hospital, where she remained Wednesday.
