An unspecified bomb threat sparked a brief evacuation of a Rockland County high school Tuesday, forcing students to divert to a middle school as police scoured the property.

The all clear was given at Nanuet High School shortly after 9:15 a.m., within an hour of Clarkstown police saying they were investigating a threat. Students arriving at the high school were sent to the middle school.

Police said they, in coordination with New York State Police, conducted an extension check of the school and found no device. Students were seen filing back into the school in orderly fashion a short time later.

No further details about the nature of the threat or its possible source were immediately released.

The school serves more than 650 students in grades 9-12.

A New Jersey high school -- Garfield High -- was also shut down Tuesday due to a separate threat, school officials said late the night before. The nature of that threat also was unclear, but the school has been similarly targeted in the past.
