Bomb Squad Called to Fatal Fire

Police discovered a body alongside a gun and a suspicious device in the burned home

Police called in a bomb squad Wednesday after discovering a small device in a burned trailer home where a person was found dead.

No explosives were found in the residence, where 68-year-old William Slezak was found dead, officials say.

Officers responded to reports of a fire on Larisa Lane near Antonia Drive in Jackson, N.J. shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Christmas Day.

Once inside, officers discovered the deceased victim alongside a gun and a suspicious device, officials said.

Neighboring trailers were evacuated and the New Jersey State Police's bomb squad was called in to investigate, police said.

Police say an autopsy is scheduled for Friday to determine the exact cause of death.
