Body Found in Hudson Near Park Where Swimmer Disappeared

The angler was with two friends at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson when he jumped into the water, according to police. But after he jumped in, he didn't resurface

Westchester County police say they have recovered a body from the Hudson River near a park where a New York City man disappeared after going for a swim earlier this week.

Police spokesman Kieran O'Leary says a fisherman discovered the man's body about 1/2 mile from the shore shortly before 7 p.m. Friday.

He says police have not yet positively identified the man, but the body fits the physical description of the missing swimmer.

Forty-seven-year-old Alex Desouza, of Brooklyn, vanished Tuesday under the water about 150 yards from the shore off Croton Point Park.

Desouza and two friends had rented a cabin at the park Monday night and were fishing Tuesday when he decided to take a dip.

Officials say swimming in that area is prohibited.
