Bathrobe-Wearing Man Breaks Into NY Home in Bizarre Burglary: Police

Everyone remembers the Wet Bandits from the Christmas classic "Home Alone", but this holiday season brought someone slightly different to New York-- a bathrobe-wearing burglar.

Police say a man wearing a bathrobe and slippers was captured on surveillance video breaking into a Ramapo home around 5 a.m. Saturday morning.

The video shows the man squeezing himself through a small kitchen window in his pajamas. He took a few undisclosed items and left the Abbey Road house, according to police.

The homeowner was away at the time. When she returned the next day, police said she was shocked to discover the man in the video.

No one on the block recognizes the man, according to police.

"I don’t even know what to say about that," said neighbor Serena Basdeo with a laugh. "I’ve never even heard of somebody breaking into someone’s house in a bathrobe, especially when it’s cold outside.”

Another neighbor, Carmine Riccardi, was equally dumbfounded by his outfit.

“It looks like, I don’t know – a movie probably,” she said.

Police say they are hoping the video attracts attention to help them identify the bathrobe-wearing bandit – but in the meantime, neighbors say they'll be on high alert.

Basdeo said, “I’m going to lock my windows and my doors – double check before I go to bed to make sure everything is locked.”
