NYC Mayoral Candidate Bill de Blasio Arrested in Hospital Protest

New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio was arrested Wednesday on disorderly conduct charges in a protest over the possible closure of a Brooklyn hospital.

De Blasio, City Councilman Steve Levin and about a dozen others were arrested in Midtown near a State University of New York campus.

The protesters were later released with summonses.

The university system is considering selling Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn. The protest was in part organized by a health care workers union that has endorsed de Blasio.

De Blasio has urged Gov. Andrew Cuomo to intervene.

The protesters have an Aug. 20 court date.
