Bedbugs Invade Celebrity Gym

The bloodsucking critters that terrorized the city during the fall are going upscale this summer.

Bedbugs were recently spotted at the posh Reebok Sports Club on Columbus Avenue, a known work-out joint for celebrities like Chris Rock and Taye Diggs.

Evidence of the tiny, nefarious invaders was found last week inside one locker in the men’s executive locker room during a routine inspection, the club said in a statement.

The individual whose locker had been infested was immediately apprised of the situation and the club was treated for bedbugs, the club said in a statement. Nearby unused lockers were also cleaned as a precautionary measure.

"With the assistance of outside professionals, we continue to aggressively take appropriate action as indicated as we proactively address the many challenges presented by operating an urban club with high utilization," the statement said. "At this time, we have been told by professionals that the Club no longer has evidence of the bedbugs."

Bedbugs have embedded themselves in a slew of high-profile places over the last year, including the Empire State Building, the United Nations, the Time Warner Center, Brooklyn district attorney’s office and even Victoria’s Secret stores throughout the city.

Bedbugs are famously difficult to eradicate; they hide in many more places than beds and can go for a year without feeding. Once the creepy crawlers establish themselves in your homes or offices, it can cost thousands of dollars to get rid of them -- and even then, there's no guarantee they won't return.
