Baby Left Unattended in Hot Car; NY Mom Charged

Police charged a Westchester County woman with child endangerment after her 5-month-old daughter was found unattended in a hot car.

Police say the baby was in the car in the Kohl's shopping center in Port Chester for about 20 minutes Wednesday. She was treated at a hospital and released.

A shopper told the Journal News the car window was open just enough for her to slid her arm in to open the door and get the baby out.

Authorities said the temperature outside was in the 80s; they didn't know how hot it was inside the SUV.

The child's mother, Carrie McKenzie, of Rye, was arrested at the scene. She posted bail and was released. She couldn't be reached for comment.
