Parts of Seventh Avenue Closed After Debris Falls From NYC Hotel

Part of Seventh Avenue was closed Monday morning after debris fell from the 44th floor of the Sheraton Hotel, police said.

Two lightweight aluminum panels and a corner panel detached from the west side of the building and fell to the ground sometime before midnight, authorities said.

The debris hit a parked car below, according to police.

Seventh Avenue was closed from 53rd to 52nd streets all day as a result of the debris. Two lanes were reopened by evening.

Those entering the hotel have been using a side entrance.

“Department engineers have been on site since last night, when three panels detached from the hotel’s façade and fell to the street. The high winds last night likely contributed to this incident. The hotel will install a sidewalk shed on Seventh Avenue as a precaution," a spokesperson from the Department of Buildings said.

No one was injured, authorities said.
