Arrest Made in Fatal Stabbing of Man Trying to Help Assault Victim

A 28-year-old New Jersey man was charged Sunday with the fatal stabbing of a good Samaritan who tried to help an attack victim, authorities said.

Troy Brandon, 26, was close to his Jersey City home on Saturday night when he stepped in to help a person who had just been attacked, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said. As he intervened, he was stabbed in the torso. He was declared dead less than an hour later at the Jersey City Medical Center.

The incident occurred at the corner of Monticello and Storms avenues.

On Sunday, police apprehended Froylan Lopez, of Jersey City, and charged him with murder and unlawful possession of a weapon. Bail was set at $1 million, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

There was no indication that Lopez had retained a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
