A 51-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the attempted sexual assault of an elderly woman in East Harlem.
Witnesses told police the suspect dragged the 74-year-old victim into an elevator inside the Johnson Houses on Lexington Avenue and East 112 Street and attempted to rape her.
When police arrived, they had to pry the elevator doors open, according to officials.
Once inside, they pulled the suspect off the victim and took him into custody. A police source said the suspect had removed his clothes and pulled down the victim's pants.
Police said both the suspect and the victim live inside the building.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital.
