Man Tried to Kidnap Girl on Upper West Side, Fled: Cops

Police said an 11-year-old girl was outside near West 61st Street and Amsterdam Avenue Tuesday, July 31 when a man tried to grab her

Police are searching for a man they say attempted to kidnap a young girl on the Upper West Side last week.

Police said an 11-year-old girl was outside near West 61st Street and Amsterdam Avenue at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 31 when a man in his 40s approached her. The man grabbed the girl's arm, but the girl pulled away.

The man again grabbed the girl's arm and pulled her toward him a second time, but the child again broke away. The man then fled south on Amsterdam Avenue.

The would-be kidnapper is described as about 5 feet 4 inches, 170 pounds with a mustache and a bump on his left eye. He was wearing a blue t-shirt and blue pants.
