A hearing will be held Wednesday to consider whether William Walsh qualifies for legal aid while fighting charges that he killed his wife, a Long Island special education teacher.
His current attorney, Karl Seman, says Walsh, a stockbroker trainee, has no assets. The victim's and defendant's families left without comment after a hearing Monday.
Walsh has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. Police say he confessed, but Seaman insists they made a "rush to judgment."
Leah Walsh's funeral was held Sunday. Last week, William Walsh made tearful pleas for her safe return.
Police allege Walsh strangled his wife during a fight over his alleged infidelity. They claim he dumped her body and staged a hoax to make it appear she'd been a victim of random roadside violence.
