Lively Williamsburg Record Store to be Muted

Sound Fix Records, a popular record store on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn that has played host to nightly comedy, concerts, mixtape trades and more, will be shutting down their back-of-the-store lounge after neighbors' continuous noise complaints to the city.

Back in spring 2008, Brownstoner, seconded by Gothamist, investigated "major issues that [were] threatening a permanent shut-down" of the store. Store owner James Bradley told Brownstoner at the time "the Dept. of Health, the Dept. of Buildings, and the Police Dept. have all issued violations on the business, many of them requiring court appearances." He added, "It's been really overwhelming."

A quick call to the store confirmed that they are indeed shutting down the bar, and given the bar's history with the many city agencies who have the power to order such a thing, it's likely that their spring ghosts came back to haunt them.

A local comedy blogger, The Comic's Comic, thinks this is the case. They write, "From what I have been told, the owner simply didn't want to fight the neighbors on this any longer." After asking who to blame - from the comics to the crowds to the noisy bands - they settle on the real root of where all true problems arise, saying "it's merely a matter of location, location, location."
