Police Probe Random BB Gun Attacks in Yonkers

Police in Yonkers say someone appears to be randomly attacking women with a pellet gun.

Three women have been shot by a BB gun in the last three days on the same corner of Riverdale Avenue and Prospect Street, according to police.

The first woman was shot in the leg at about 11 p.m. Tuesday. The next day, around noon, a 17-year-old girl standing on the corner was hit. And on Thursday night at about 8:30 p.m., a 19-year-old woman standing on the same corner became the third victim.

Neighbor Rabi Karimu said her daughter witnessed the Thursday night attack while she was walking back home from the gym.

"The girl was walking and she saw something in the back," Karimu related her daughter's account of the shooting. "She touched it and she saw the blood. She just screamed, 'I got shot, I got shot.'"

All three victims were treated at local hospitals and released.

"It's a terrible thing. I think they've got to be caught because this is ridiculous," said one woman living in the area. "It could be someone's eye, it could be someone's very vital organ."

Police don't know if the shooter is hiding out inside a car or an apartment while committing the attacks.
