3 Workers Burned in Elevator Flash Fire on Upper East Side: FDNY

Three workers were burned in an elevator on the Upper East Side, fire officials say.

The FDNY says workers were refinishing an elevator inside 1148 Fifth Avenue, near 96th Street, with acetone. Somehow it ignited, causing a flash fire.

The workers had second-degree burns on the hands and arms. Two people were taken to the hospital in stable condition; a third had minor injuries.
