Woman Shot in Car After Fight Breaks Out: NYPD, Video

A woman was shot in the back while sitting inside her car in the Bronx Monday evening, a casualty in an apparent fight between two groups of people in two cars, police say.

Officers responded to Monticello and Strang avenues in Edenwald around 6:15 p.m. for a report of a woman shot inside a black BMW, according to the NYPD. The victim was taken to Jacobi Hospital, where she's in stable condition.

Surveillance video from the scene shows a car pulling up behind an SUV on the side of the street, and someone from the SUV dragging a person from the car. A fight broke out among the group from both vehicles, video shows -- and then a flash of what appeared to be gunfire is seen directed toward the back of the SUV.

That car fled the scene, and not too long after, so did the SUV, parking about a half-block away.

Neighbors said they didn't know what to make of the violence that played out on their tree-lined residential street. A school is located right across from where the shooting happened; a parked school bus is even visible in the surveillance video.

Police were investigating the crime scene in to the night. It's not clear if they have a suspect.
