A woman was threatened with sexual assault and robbed in her Lower East Side apartment building, police said.

The victim, 41, got home at around 11 p.m. Wednesday and let a man into the building who she saw was trying to get buzzed in, officials said.

The man allegedly hid in the stairwell while the woman was checking her mail and then confronted her when she got to the stairs, asking her to perform a sex act and then grabbing her when she refused.

The suspect took the woman's cell phone and wallet after she started screaming and then fled, officials said.

Anyone with information about the suspect, who is shown in surveillance video released by the police, is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
