Woman Struck and Killed by Hit-Run Driver in Brooklyn

A 59-year-old woman was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Brooklyn early Sunday morning, authorities said.

According to police, the victim, identified as Marlene Zotti, was crossing 9th Avenue on 42nd Street in Sunset Park around 12:30 a.m. with the aid of a walker, when she was hit by a white minivan traveling north.

After striking Zotti, the minivan turned onto 42 Street and continued east, fleeing the scene, officials said.

Zotti was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

"She was just a giver, a great person," said Robert Medina, Zotti's brother, who said she was returning home from buying groceries and was steps away from her apartment on 42nd Street when she was hit. "Seeing her stuff and her cart smashed like that it's really devastating."

No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.
