Woman Strangled, Roommate Choked at NJ Home: Police

A 48-year-old woman was strangled and her roommate was choked at an apartment in Elizabeth, N.J., and police are looking for a man who had been visiting the home.

Police say a preliminary investigation reveals the 48-year-old invited a man to the Madison Avenue apartment Wednesday night; she told her 59-year-old roommate she loved the man.

When he arrived, all three talked for a bit before he and the 48-year-old woman went into a room. At some point, police believe the man came out of the room alone, encountered the 59-year-old roommate in the hall and attacked her. Then he ran off.

Authorities say a neighbor called 911 after hearing a disturbance.

Police found the older woman hurt but conscious in the hallway stairwell. She told police about the younger woman, who was in another room and not breathing. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The older woman was treated at the hospital and released.

Police are looking for the man invited to the apartment. He's described as being about 30 to 35 years old and 6 feet 3 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, a blue jacket and jeans.
