Woman Shot, Wounded by New Jersey Police Officer

Authorities say a woman armed with two knives was shot and wounded by a police officer who had responded to a domestic violence call shot at a New Jersey residence.

Union County prosecutors say the shooting happened just before 1 a.m. Monday in Elizabeth.

The woman allegedly reacted aggressively when officers arrived on scene, and they used pepper spray in an unsuccessful attempt to subdue her. The officers then tried to maneuver an object into her path in a bid to prevent her from attacking them, but one officer eventually shot one round that hit the woman in the torso.

The woman was hospitalized in stable condition, but further details on her condition were not disclosed.
