Woman Seriously Burned in Nursing Home Fire: Police

A woman was seriously burned when a fire broke out in her room at a Jersey Shore nursing home.

Toms River police tell Nj.Com that 59-year-old Romana Glasser suffered burns to her head and face. She was flown to a burn center and was listed in critical condition, but further details were not disclosed.

Authorities say the Sunday morning fire started in the bathroom of Glasser's room at the Shore Meadows site. It was contained to her room after the sprinkler system was activated, but that caused extensive flooding to the building.

Nearly 140 residents were relocated after the fire and will not be allowed to return until the water damage is fixed and the home's electrical wiring is inspected.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
