Woman Riding Bike Dies After Being Hit by Boat on Staten Island Street Corner: NYPD

A woman riding her bike died and another was injured after they were struck by a boat that became detached from the SUV that was towing it in the Great Kills section of Staten Island.

The women were hit around 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of Hylan Boulevard and Bay Terrace Avenue when the trailer carrying the boat detached from a 2015 Toyota SUV, the NYPD said.

The SUV was changing lanes when its trailer became detached and continued to travel north into the right lane, hitting a 22-year-old cyclist. The trailer kept going north and it struck 21-year-old Alexa Cioffi, who became pinned under the trailer and was killed.

The 22-year-old woman who survived was taken to Staten Island University Hospital, where she is in serious, but stable condition.

The SUV remained on scene and no arrests have been made.
