A New York City woman has been arraigned on charges of murder and assault in the case of a 2-year-old boy who police say was thrown from his family's seventh floor balcony.
Xiao Qui Cai pleaded not guilty Friday in Queens court. Prosecutors say she was having a fight with her own daughter when she killed the son of the family that was renting her and her daughter a room in their Flushing apartment. The boy was just 10 days from turning 3.
If convicted, the 53-year-old faces up to 25 years to life in prison. Authorities have said she was on medication and very depressed.
Her lawyer, Kathleen Gallo, says no bail was set and she'll be talking with her client in more detail about the case. She had no further comment.
