NJ Police Officer Was Drunk Driving When He Killed Pedestrian: Authorities

An off-duty police officer was driving drunk when he struck and killed a woman last month, authorities say.

Long Branch officer Jake Pascucci has been charged with careless driving, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated, legal papers obtained by NJ.com show. It wasn't known whether he had retained an attorney.

The charges against the 28-year-old officer stem from a Sept. 22 crash in Long Branch that killed 66-year-old Stanhope resident Karen Borkowski, who was attempting to cross the street at the time. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pascucci told officers he had a green light and that Borkowski was jaywalking, according to dashboard camera video from police.
