A woman was stabbed to death in her New Jersey home on Sunday, officials said.

Officers responded to a house on Halstead Terrace, in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, around 3 p.m. after someone called 9-1-1 and hung up, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said.

When they arrived, they discovered a woman who lived in the house had been stabbed, prosecutors said.

The woman was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, according to prosecutors.

A family member who lived at the house with the woman was taken into custody, and an investigation is ongoing, prosecutors said.

Neighbors told NBC New York a woman and her son lived at the home, which is in a quiet neighborhood where crimes rarely happen. The two kept to themselves, according to neighbors.

Officials didn’t immediately release the victim's name and age, nor the identify of the person taken into custody.
