Woman Drowns When Kayak Flips in NJ River

Authorities in southern New Jersey say a woman drowned when the kayak she and her neighbor were riding in capsized on the Manasquan River.

Forty-nine-year-old Robin Hoffarth of Brick Township and another woman had gone out before dusk on Friday and were on their way back home when the kayak capsized around 10:30 p.m.

Hoffarth's 45-year-old neighbor, whose name was not disclosed, was able to swim back to shore and alerted her husband, who called police. The kayak was found about an hour later, and Hoffarth's body was found by divers around 12:40 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities were still trying to determine what caused the kayak to capsize.
