Woman Dies in Long Island House Fire: Officials

A woman died after a fire roared through her Long Island home Sunday evening, officials say.

Firefighters rushed to the home on 20th Avenue in Bay Shore around 7 p.m. after the woman, who hasn’t been identified, called 911 from inside the burning home, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

The woman was pulled from the engulfed home by the Brentwood Fire Department and was taken to an area hospital, where doctors were unable to save her life, police said.

Police say the woman was the only one in the house at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but police say it does not appear to be criminal in nature.
