Woman Busted in Bogus Check Scam Escapes Police Custody at Hospital

Cops seek public's help in tracking down suspect

Police are asking for the public's help in finding a 28-year-old grand larceny suspect who escaped police custody while awaiting medical clearance at Harlem Hospital.

Police say Tashia Evans managed to flee the Lenox Avenue hospital Monday afternoon. Evans, arrested earlier that day, had been complaining of chest pains, so officers brought her to be checked out, reports the Daily News.

Neither cops nor hospital staff know in which direction she was headed. Evans is described as being about 5'2" tall and 160 pounds. She was last seen wearing a black parka jacket and gray pants.

The escape is under investigation.

Anyone with information as to Evans' whereabouts is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
