Woman, 22, Dies in Crash on Long Island Expressway: Police

A 22-year-old woman was killed in a two-car crash on the Long Island Expressway Wednesday, police said.

Andrea Acosta was driving a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer in the eastbound HOV lane around 4 p.m. when she crossed over the HOV lane buffer and three lanes to get to the far right lane, according to Suffolk County police.

As she was crossing over, her car struck a 2013 Hyundai that was in the far right lane, police said.

Acosta was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hyundai’s passengers, 18-year-old Cassandra Carreon and 19-year-old Francisco Ayaraca, were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where Carreon was being treated for serious injuries and Ayaraca was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Hyundai, 50-year-old Gregorio Pisciotti was uninjured.

Both cars were impounded for safety checks as police investigate.
