Wintry Chill Hits Tri-State Ahead of Holiday

New Yorkers were feeling the chill Saturday after plummeting temperatures and gusting winds interrupted what has been an unseasonably warm lead up to winter.

Temperatures in New York City dropped to 35 degrees Saturday morning, and the windy weather made it feel like 28 degrees, according to Storm Team 4. The suburbs to the north and west of the city felt even colder; in Newburgh, residents who ventured outdoors were feeling like it was down to 20 degrees.

Some residents north of the city shared images of snow flurries on social media, and more flurries were expected in the northern suburbs in the early evening

It was quite a shock to the system after a spate of unseasonably warm weather that saw record-setting temperatures across the Tri-State region.

Saturday night temperatures in Central Park were expected to drop below freezing, and Sunday was expected to warm up slightly, with New York City feeling like 33 degrees.

From there, temperatures are expected to steadily rise through Thursday, when the Christmas Eve high is expected to hit 67 degrees. Christmas Day could see a high of 57 degrees and a low of 45.

The threat of rain returns mid-week, but Storm Team 4 expects Christmas Day to be relatively dry and mild.
