The emergency 911 system was briefly knocked out throughout Westchester and Putnam counties Thursday evening.
New York State police tweeted about the the issue, asking residents to call local numbers in case of an emergency.
Police in Westchester later said the system was back up.
It's not clear what caused the 911 outage.
