Winter wouldn't leave the tri-state without a fight, as a slushy storm dropped 7 inches of snow on parts of the region Friday.
Rocky Point in Suffolk County saw the most snow, with 7 inches recorded. Weston, Connecticut came in at 6.5 inches, while Plainfield saw the most snow in New Jersey at 5.2 inches. Parkchester in the Bronx logged the most snow in New York City at 4.9 inches, while Central Park saw 3.2 inches.
More spring-like conditions make for quick work of the snow that piled up on sidewalks and grass, however. Highs in the 40s and a late-day rainstorm are expected to wash away any accumulations on Saturday, but a temperature dip on Saturday night could cause some roads to freeze, making for more dangerous driving.
Even without Friday's snowstorm, this March has cracked the top 10 snowiest Marches on record in New York City. So far, 14.1 inches have fallen this month. This year's total is well below the all-time record for the month; it snowed 30.5 inches in March 1896.
This winter has dropped 42.5 inches on the five boroughs, nearly double the average winter snowfall, but nearly a foot below the winter of 2013-14.
Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will all be chilly, with the mercury sticking in the 40s. Storm Team 4 says spring-like temperatures in the 50s could finally move in later next week.
