Tri-state residents endured another day of uncomfortably hot, steamy weather Wednesday as temperatures climbed into the high 80s -- though it felt more like 90 degrees outside -- and the threat for scattered heavy thunderstorms lingered, Storm Team 4 says.
Gusty showers and thunderstorms were expected to form in the afternoon and evening, bringing brief, intense downpours, strong winds and lightning, according to Storm Team 4.
Ominous clouds converged over a darkened midtown after 4 p.m. ahead of the anticipated storms, which were were expected to dissipate within several hours.

Thursday is expected to be a bit cooler, with highs in the 70s north and east of the city and in the upper 80s south and west of the city, though the smothering humidity remains, Storm Team 4 says.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop in the afternoon to the west of the city and push through the tri-state area during the late afternoon and evening hours. Some of the storms across central and southern New Jersey could be strong to severe, Storm Team 4 cautions.
Storm Team 4 says we should see a nice stretch of weather Friday through the weekend, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures reaching 85 to 90 degrees.
The chance for thunderstorms returns early next week.
